MET: Cats On the Met Stairs

By: Ema Nova

When we talk about Karl Lagerfeld's life, it's quite impossible not to mention Choupette, his beloved Cat. Wich, he owned from 2011 until his last day on Earth in 2019. Even though we heard that Choupette would be at the MET, she was a no-show, but some celebrities made sure their looks were a tribute to her. Is a great look even a look if you don't pay homage to the greatest?

Doja Cat made her first MET gala appearance at the Met, and she made it a point not to disappoint, and she did not. However, what made us speechless was that she went above and beyond. The singer referenced Karl's cat choupette and her name by wearing a silver gown from Oscar De la Renta, but the feline prosthetic was the cherry on the top of the cake.

Jared Leto is known for always bringing some of the most fun and realistic looks to the met gala. This time he did not miss the chance to do so again; with probably the most interesting look of the night. What can be more fun than dressing up as an actual cat? According to Jared Leto nothing because the actor gave s the most realistic cat of the night. Yes, he went as an actual cat and that surely made people laugh and created a conversation and debates. Most of the debates were surrendered by two questions "Is the MET supposed to be fun? or should people take the theme seriously?".

Personally, I believe you can have two but I do understand that the met is a moment when designers have the opportunity to showcase their work more widely. Ordinary people hardly watch fashion shows, so the MET is the perfect opportunity for people to get educated in fashion.

However, your look can also be playful, like we saw at this year's MET. As long as they follow the theme, which Doja, Jared, and Lil Nas X, all did for sure. We have to mention that Jared Leto's costume looked very much real, so much so that the first time I saw him I thought it was AI until he took the head off. Definitely a very realistic costume, the work shows the complexity of the costume. Usually, when we see mascots' suits they never look as realistic as his look but mostly as caricatures and the super-talented designer created that only with the photographs of Choupette.

The actor also made sure that the look was an actual secret until he walked the carpet. As I mention the actor always has a way to make his MET Gala looks to be the talk of the night.

Talking about creativity Lil Nas X, played with our imagination with his look. Even though I don't know what kind of cat this is people really seem to like it. His look definitely plays with our imagination, is it a thong or a body suit? What is it? Apparently Choupette Karl's cat.

It's important to remember that this is art, and art is support to play with our imagination. In Art, there is not a line between beauty and ugly, everything is about perspective. On his crystal outfit, mostly silver full-body glitter and of course the matching equally sparkling shoes, all in collaboration with him and Pat McGrath. To complete the look pearls, glittered whiskers, cat-winged eyeliner, and sharp claws (by Temeka Jackson).

Ultimately what made the looks iconically was how they committed to the bit, which was funny because both Lil Nas X and Doja stayed in character for the whole time at the gala.

See you soon, with love...

Milênia!
