Old Money Aestetic

You probably have heard of the term old money on the internet, such as on TikTok and Instagram. The term has become popular around gen-z during and after the pandemic. Therefore, today we will discuss history, problems, benefits, and the Icons behind them, also how this style and the aesthetic affect this generation.

OLD MONEY = ELEGANT

How did this style come about?

This aesthetic and style came from families that inherited riches, such as members of the royal family whose status and money was passed on by generations. Old money families are very traditional in their thought, behavior, and custom. This style contradicts all new and California money aesthetics created mainly through the Kardashian.

In the USA, old money families used, and some still live in East Cost states like New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York, "New England." The Old money aesthetic started from the private college, clubs, tennis, polo, and lacrosse uniforms.

ICONS of this style

The most well-known Icons of this style include Princes Diana, Angelina Jolie, the royals' families, etc. Princess Diana was one of the biggest icons of this style. After the divorce, she was the authentic recreation of old money. She used to dress very often in this style, and until now she is still a reference to this aesthetic. All the royal families' aesthetics are about elegance; for me, Angelina Jolie has one of the most elegant old-money aesthetics.

What do they wear?

People from this style use timeless pieces of clothes bags and accessories like, for example, Birkin bags that are passed through generations. They wear clothes that speak for themself without having to have logos. They like and wear elegant, timeless clothes without color or patterns. Their closet includes classic or neutral colors and patterns without much information, such as sweaters, white shirts, khaki pants, stripes, Allstars, moccasin, loafer, and classic channel shoes.

Problem & Benefits

This style started around the 1900s' and the elite around that time had a very conservative mind where most believed they were superior, and as a result, they created a social division between rich and poor. The problem with this style is that it reinforces the social division between rich and poor. It's known that this style's increase, such as racism and fatphobia, were constant problems for this society.

However, the benefit of this style is around the fact that this style and the clean girl style emerge. This makes them both the most sustainable fashion.

See you soon, with love...
