Born on February 22, 1972, in Ghana, and at a young age, Edward Enninful moved to London with his family, where his passion for fashion and style began to flourish. Edward Enninful is a highly influential figure in the fashion industry, known for his exceptional talent, creativity, and advocacy for diversity and inclusivity.
He started his career at the age of 16 as a model when discovered by the prominent stylist Simon Foxton. His breakthrough came when he caught the attention of Beth Summers, the fashion director of i-D magazine, who offered him a position as a fashion assistant. By the age of 18, Edward Enninful became the fashion director of i-D magazine, making him the youngest person to hold such a position at a major publication. That marked the beginning of a remarkable journey in the world of fashion editorial.
Enninful collaborated with numerous high-profile fashion magazines, including Italian Vogue, American Vogue, and W magazine, where he continued to break barriers and advocate for diversity in the pages of these prestigious publications.
In 2017, he was appointed the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, a historic appointment as he became the first Black editor-in-chief in the magazine's 100-year history. Under his leadership, British Vogue has embraced a more inclusive approach, featuring a diverse array of models and tackling important social issues through fashion editorials. Under his direction, British Vogue faced an undeniable revival, as an active advocate of diversity Enninful has made one of the most remarkable covers of this generation. Several of the coves were collaborations between Enninful and other celebrities and personalities, such as the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markels as well as Beyonce.
Edward Enninful's contributions to the fashion industry have been recognized and celebrated with several awards and honors. So it's sad to see that he is leaving his position effective next year, his being promoted to a global advisory role. Where he will have the freedom to engage in more creative projects.
